Job stuff:
Quick update on my job interview with Washington County yesterday…. It went great! Interview only lasted about 30 mins or so covering 9-10 questions dealing with HR stuff and technical jargon as well. I’m hopeful that I will be at least considered for the position as as I stated in my tweet the other day on FB, I should hear back from them by end of next week.
Movie news:
Iron Man 2 gets cast finalized:
So Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have both been confirmed as starring in the sequel to last summers hit movie Iron Man. Details on Rourke’s character are still sketchy at best but it sounds like he is going to be a Soviet version of Tony Stark. Johansson on the other hand is going to be playing the ‘Black Widow’ which I absolutely have no clue who the character is but I think Scarlett will be a welcome addition to the cast. Riddick Sequel update:
So I guess Vin was right… news will start coming out… as long as it’s from him right?
Here’s some new tidbits from Filmstalker:
“We’re going to find Riddick alone for the first part of the movie, barely alive, surrounded by carnivorous monsters who are trying to eat him…So you’ll see a futuristic Rambo-esque Riddick trying to survive.”
“David Twohy is scripting the next installment of Riddick as we speak, and it’s underway. The story will return to a Pitch Black [sensibility] while servicing the mythology that’s been enhanced in Chronicles of Riddick.”
Sounds awesome. So I will just say… as with everyone saying that ‘Chronicles of Riddick’ somehow magically “sucked”…. I beg to differ. It was a larger budget, broader audience type of movie that apparently didn’t work as well as they had hoped as ‘Riddick’ is a niche market. I would say though that the next movies see some good intake at the box office as I really love the ‘Riddick’ lore that they have created thus far. Who knows though.
Bioshock 2 news update:
Taken from Shacknews:
- There’s only one Big Sister, and Big Daddies do not return.
- Rapture is mostly flooded, and the game has underwater diving levels.
- A Zoo level features “spliced” animals, such as a rhinoceros.
- Spliced dogs and robots can be hacked to help players.
- At some point, Soviets invade Rapture, looking for the lucrative Adam energy. The Soviets are “much smarter” than other enemies, and will use plasmids.
- New plasmids include telepathy and the ability to slow time. By reading minds, players can discover keypad combination and enemy weaknesses.
- There will be challenge rooms, as well as a new health and revival system.
Sounds awesome.
Let’s see…. I have an insane weekend coming up but I might try to get another update done today or later this weekend. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
So I have been waiting for this movie for a while—- Ever since it was teased back in April or May of last year as Frank Miller’s next “Big” project (aside from ‘The Spirit’ which I still need to see) and visually, looked stunning. Watchmen is based on a graphic novel by Alan Moore and was released in the mid 80’s. The premise is set in an alternate version of the United States where masked heroes are the guardians of mankind…. Richard Nixon is on his 5th term as President and somehow we managed to win over in Vietnam. Crazy right? Well it gets better…. Nixon then signs a bill outlawing the masks our hereos wear and punishes them to leave secluded lives outside of society for fear of war mongering. So that’s the premise…. it opens by one of them being assisinated by being tossed out of the apartment window. Miller’s vision for the film via the graphic novel from the opening scene told me that this was going to be a mind trip for how normal movies are made and in part…. I was ready for the ride.
Pictured to the right of here is Rorschach who the story is told through his journal or diary if you will. After the killing, he calls into question the time left of the “Watchmen”. The movie then introduces the various characters, how they met and their backgrounds for getting into the crime fighting. Also— I should make the distinction at this point…. This is NOT a “Super Heroes” movie like a DC comics or Marvel movie. In fact I would almost say that this is the “Anti” super heroes movie which I expected and did (for the most part) enjoy. One of the things that this movie was big on were two things: Graphic Violence and Nudity. I will say that there was some pretty outright violent parts of the movie that again, are based in the lore of the graphic novel. On top of that, the sex scene between two of the characters left very little to the imagination of which I think was a little over the top as it was not even that descriptive in the graphic novel. Also….. Dr. Manhattan…. what a strange bird. Imagine if you will— Mr. Blue Man group not wearing any clothes for the enterity of the movie– and then you get the idea.
So was it worth the 12:01am showing??? Was it worth only getting 3 hours of sleep? Was it worth the full price of admission? Yes and No. Here’s why. The movie was long…. REALLY long…. 2 hours and 45 mins long. Did it need to be? Probably not. Would’ve been good @ 2 hours and 20 mins most likely but who knows… purists of the graphic novel may say it was too short…. I’m not one of them. The story was really intriguing and the characters were very memorable. My favorite was Rorschach and he was actually a loon but of the characters, had the most solid principles. The sex scene was a bit much—- the violence was graphic and overall I think they could’ve done things to keep those a bit more in check. I’m not a fan of movies that push the boundries of either just to say they did or “pioneered” new territory at the sake of the audience watching. So yes— Go see Watchmen if you’re a 18-48 year old male with absolutely nothing else to do on a Saturday— but I wouldn’t advise this as a date movie or taking your spouse to. Watchmen gets a *** out of ****
So you might be wondering why I’m excited about a magazine cover… but it’s the content really. Bioshock was one of my Top 5 games of all time I would say back in 2007 and I am thrilled that Bioshock 2 might be heading out pasture sometime this year!! Call me a geek or weird but the game is a brilliant piece of work and if this picture shows me anything, it’s that the design crew is going full steam ahead on the sequel of which I can’t wait to see some more of!
